MCM XXXVI Registration opens Feb. 23, 2011. The race date is Oct. 30. Put both of these dates on your calendars NOW. Registration is expected to close very quickly this year, based on what happened in Boston.
Had the privilege of running a couple of loops around the Boston Common last night with Bill Rodgers, 4-time winner of both the Boston and the New York Marathons. He was giving a bunch of us charity runners some tips on running Boston. What a great guy!
If you want a good general guide to running that is good for your family as well as you to use, I recommend Rodgers’ A Complete Idiot’s Guide to Running. It’s in its 3rd edition, newly out in paperback. Lots of helpful tips and concepts without getting too technical, like so many of the running guides do.
It’s been mighty cold up here training at 5 a.m. in (literally) subzero temps. This Saturday’s long run will be 15 miles. So far no frost bite, no lung bite and no injuries. Extreme caution required, however.
Very pumped for the Annual Team Dykeman MCM event.
Last week was Veterans Day; all of us at Team Dykeman want to stand and salute all who served so we might live and enjoy the freedoms of this great country. Every who knew Phil knew he loved his job, he loved serving country. Here’s a short tribute to all who serve and served!
My 4th marathon is in the books. It was the toughest yet. Thank you to all of the runners and supporters. Without you, I couldn’t have done it. Steve Nolan ran Ebenezer Church Road with me, Paul Groff ran all of Umstead Park. At the end of the race Rusty Sneeden and his family were there to support me.
We wish you luck this weekend , our heart and soul will be with you all the way !! Congrats Kevin Handly and Steve Nolan as well .
Andrew , Captain Phil would be so proud of you !! I just want to raise my hand to you guys with a toast and say Thank You !! It is the small things in life that we do that leaves our legacy behind and it is things like this that bring the good out in People and also makes People be better and want to be better ! As you are running hard and feeling like you are not going to finish and you ask yourself why am I doing this , I want you to think about the other thoughts that you are putting in other peoples minds about the good that we all have in us . Even though some of us do not run you are filling our hearts with warmth , envy and respect !!! Keep up the good will and keep that smile on your face .
We support you 110% .
Know this Guys , what you do is not taken lightly and the Example you set is above and beyond what words can say !

On Sunday Andrew participated in the first of two marathons he has scheduled. Yesterday he ran the Century Marathon in Fulton, NY. Twenty-seven days from today he will lace up his running shoes for the City of Oaks Marathon in his home town of Raleigh, NC. Sunday, Andrew turned in his personal best time of 4 hrs and 41 minutes. Outstanding! Andrew was joined by his brother Stephen who ran the Half Marathon.
He was my cousin. Our Mother’s were twins. We grew up together. I introduced him to his wife; I am the God father to his daughter Ashlee.
Phil has 3 children; Austin who is 11 is the same age as my Morgan. Twin girls Emilee and Ashlee, age 8 same age as my Alyssa. He was more than just my Cousin.
Wanted to check in to see how everyone was doing. I am going to Fulton NY to run the Century Marathon October 10th,THEN running the City of Oaks Marathon November 7th. What am I thinking!?! I am as ready as I will ever be. What races are you running? What is going on in your life?
Rick Roebuck competed in a Triathlon last weekend in Atlanta! How did you do? How big was the race?
This year I have been lucky enough to train with Steve Nolan and Bob “Bibby” Moore. They have kept me going. I just hang back let them set the pace and listen to them talk. Then the run is over. Thanks guys!
I want to Thank everyone for their support. Especially my wife Julie, without her I would not have started Team Dykeman.
Please respond and let us know what you are up to.
On August 21st, Patrick Bateman (Phil’s cousin Peter’s son) completed his first Triathlon representing Team Dykeman.
Patrick along with 125 other kids swam, biked and ran in an event meant to engage kids in outdoor activities. Patrick participated in the 9-11 yr old category where they had to swim 2 laps of the pool, tranistion to their bikes for a 3.5 mile ride and then run .75 miles.
Throughout the event Patrick wore his Team Dykeman shirt and proudly wore his finishing metal the rest of the weekend. Everyone at Team Dykeman is very proud of Patrick’s accomplishment. Patrick’s Dad sponsored Patrick and will be donating $100 to Team Dykeman!
