October 22, 2016
It’s that time of the year again. We are running the Marine Corps Marathon on October 30th 2016. We are not Marines, but we run for one! We miss Captain Phil and run to pay tribute to his love for his family and service to our country.
This is a special year! Captain Phil’s son, Austin, is a high school senior and will be graduating from the the same high school at his father. It will be our honor to award Austin with one of this year’s Team Dykeman scholarships!
As we prepare for next week’s marathon, we want to thank you for you support! Over the past several years, we have been able to present scholarships to high school seniors who have demonstrated a zest for life similar to Captain Phil. We need to keep this drive alive!
We are not Marines but we run for one!
Semper Fidelis,
Andrew

Team Dykeman!
We are 3 days and 12 hours away from the start of the Marine Corps Marathon. I am very excited about this race. All of the runners have put in the time and effort over the last 5 months. It is time to race! (or just finish)!
I want to Thank You! Everyone has been very supportive as usual. This is the 5 year anniversary of my Cousin Captain Philip J Dykeman USMC was killed in Iraq. I can’t believe it has been 5 years. Team Dykeman has only begun. We have had many Golf Tournaments and Marathons. We support Team Dykeman to remember Philip and his Family. We remember his ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms. The least I can do is run a Marathon for my Cousin and his family.
Please remember that we raise money for a scholarship that we give in his name to a Graduating senior every June. In June 2014 will be our 5th Scholarship. We give this scholarship to help remember and never forget.
Please consider making a contribution this year. If you want more information on how to make a donation, please reach out to me.
Next year will be my 8th Marathon and my 5th Marine Corps Marathon. I am looking forward to being able to run my 5th. With my 5th race I will have lifetime rights to enter the Marathon. This is a race that fills up in 2-3 hours! I will need support and runners for next year. It is a great race for your first marathon or a great race to do again! Please think about joining me next year. It is going to be Legend (wait for it) dary! LEGENDARY!
I will be arriving in Washington DC this Friday, getting my race packet. Then continuing on to Towson Maryland to see my Sister Mary, John and nephew Daniel. I am excited to see them. Saturday we will gather around 4 pm in the Arlington area for an early dinner. We will gather as a Team of runners that will run an individual race but with common purpose.
Sunday morning is the Race, we will gather at Arlington Cemetery and end at the Iwo Jima Memorial! I will have Captain Dykeman’s Captains Bars that he wore home from Iraq. They will carry me to the finish. I will not fail in my mission!
We will gather after the race at Cousin Jackie Handly house in Falls Church. All are welcome to celebrate the Race. We will toast the finishers!
The Handly’s are the Hosts with the most! Thank you for all of your support. I can’t wait to see Amelia and Ben!
Please keep us in your thoughts and your prayers as all of the runners travel to Washington DC.
To Ginger, Austin, Emilee and Ashlee: I love you. I do not take step without thinking of you!
We are not Marines, but we run for One! ( and his family)
Always Faithful,
Cousin Andrew

The Morning Show Chapter of BNI is hosting a networking social. Don Stacey, owner of DS Parada Color Solon and member of the Morning Show, has graciously offered to host our event. The event will be held on Thursday, October 27th from 6-8 pm at DS Parada. Our plan is to ask for $10/pp at the door to cover drinks and appetizers. Any profits will be going to support Team Dykeman–a foundation to honor and support our marine corps family (see below). The Morning Show wishes to invite other local BNI chapters so that we will have an opportunity to meet and network with other BNI members in our area. Please feel free to bring visitors as well!

On May 20, 2011, Archer Investment Management and Powell, Angeli & Langford Insurance are sponsoring the 2nd Annual Charity Putt-Putt Fundraiser. Last year the event drew over 100 people, for this fun family evening, and over $3000 was donated to charities in the Raleigh, NC area.
This year’s fundraiser will benefit TEAM DYKEMAN, a scholarship fund in honor of a fallen Marine; Tour de Cure, the American Diabetes Association’s cyclist ride; NC Beginnings, supports the parents of children who are deaf or hard of hearing; and the Michael J. Gressman Brain Tumor Fund. Read the rest of this entry »

Hello Runners,
Julie, Rusty Sneeden, Angel Mercer, and Damon Yudichek all ran the Myrtle Beach !/2 Marathon on Saturday. We represented Team Dykeman very well. Damon was the first to cross the finish well under 2 hours. Way to go stud! Then myself, Julie and Rusty. Julie did awesome, she will be able to post even better times at the next race. I better watch out. My very special friend Angel Mercer wanted to run with us, she works out all the time but runs very little. Well, SHE DID IT. She completed the Half. This was her first. Awesome!

We had a small after party, where we ate Oysters and had Bloody Mary’s to Celebrate!
This Wednesday is the sign up day for the Marine Corp Marathon. I would recommend signing up on the first day. The race will fill up pretty quick. Please spread the word about Team Dykeman Runners. Recruit runners to join us.
Please don’t forget to Friend Team Dykeman on Facebook.
Send emails to the group on Wednesday day to let everyone know that you are signed up.
I am not a Marine, But i run for one!
Always Faithful!
Cousin Andrew Bateman

I’m in and psyched. I’m also arranging and hosting Team Dykeman festivities for MCM weekend.
First. We have a Team Dykeman room block at the key bridge Marriot for Fri,Sat, and Sunday. If you don’t know this hotel is right on the course in Rosslyn so runners and spectators will enjoy the convenience. Rooms are 159 per night. I’ll send the reservation link when I get it from the hotel.
I’m working the details of a pasta / high carb dinner the night before the race. Marriot wants to charge us 25+ per head to have it in the hotel. I’m sure the food will be good but the price is steep. Let me know if you know of corporate sponsors that want to sponsor the meal or other cool team Dykeman chachkies(sp?) And events.
Finally, for those that can make it after the race, we’re hosting a post race party just a few stops out the orange line from the race hotel.
That’s all for now.
Paul Handly

From Kevin Handly
MCM XXXVI Registration opens Feb. 23, 2011. The race date is Oct. 30. Put both of these dates on your calendars NOW. Registration is expected to close very quickly this year, based on what happened in Boston.
Had the privilege of running a couple of loops around the Boston Common last night with Bill Rodgers, 4-time winner of both the Boston and the New York Marathons. He was giving a bunch of us charity runners some tips on running Boston. What a great guy!
If you want a good general guide to running that is good for your family as well as you to use, I recommend Rodgers’ A Complete Idiot’s Guide to Running. It’s in its 3rd edition, newly out in paperback. Lots of helpful tips and concepts without getting too technical, like so many of the running guides do.
It’s been mighty cold up here training at 5 a.m. in (literally) subzero temps. This Saturday’s long run will be 15 miles. So far no frost bite, no lung bite and no injuries. Extreme caution required, however.
Very pumped for the Annual Team Dykeman MCM event.
Hoo Rah!
Kevin

My 4th marathon is in the books. It was the toughest yet. Thank you to all of the runners and supporters. Without you, I couldn’t have done it. Steve Nolan ran Ebenezer Church Road with me, Paul Groff ran all of Umstead Park. At the end of the race Rusty Sneeden and his family were there to support me.
All of the runners… Read the rest of this entry »
