Veteran’s Day Salute to all who serve!

November 11, 2009

As I wrote the headline, I paused for a moment on the word serve.  Should it be serve or should it be served?  I quickly decided that serve was the right, as service to our country never ends.   To all those who have died, to all those who have retired, to all those currently in the armed forces — all continue to serve!  We at Team Dykeman thank you for your service and all the freedoms your service provides us.

I was passed a link that I thought very appropriate to a include on Veteran’s Day.

WE DID IT!

November 2, 2009

I want to say Thank You!   All of you made this very successful.  Hopefully we have raised a lot of money for the Captain Philip J. Dykeman Memorial Scholarship.  If we did not, i still wouldn’t have changed a thing from this weekend.  Each of you made it very special to me.  That was an amazing run.  I will never forget it, that’s for sure.  Each of us ran for different reasons, but i certainly felt united at the dinner.   It is great being on a Team.  Whether you ran or not we are still in this together.  Thank you for all of the effort in traveling and help through out the weekend.  Read the rest of this entry »

October 20, 2009

Dear Friends and Family,

As many of you know, my friend and cousin, Captain Philip J Dykeman, USMC, was killed in action on June 26, 2008, while serving our country in Iraq. Phil died at the young age of 38 leaving behind his wife of 10 years, 3 children – Austin, 10; Emilee, 8; Ashley, 8 – and an extended family stretching across the country that miss him dearly with every passing day. A lasting Legacy

June 26, 2009

On June 26, 2008, the life of Phil Dykeman came to a sudden end.   A father, a Marine, a cousin, a friend.  There are many around the world today who will pause to remember.     Phil touched the hearts and minds of everyone he met.   Phil was my cousin.  I believe there is about 11 years separating us so we weren’t really close growing up.   But in 1998 when he attended Marine Officer Candidate School (OCS) at Quantico, I got to know Phil, the man, a little better. On your mark… get set…train!

May 26, 2009

I have heard from many of you about your training, great job!   Julie and I are starting tomorrow with Jeff Galloway Training Program.  It will be fun to meet him in person tomorrow.

Would like to announce that my Brother Steve Bateman is signed up to run with us at the MCM.  He signed up on April 1st, but stayed in the closet til he knew that he could run it.  He just did a 10k at a 8:30 minute pace!  I think he will be fine.

Mike and Holly Redwine have started their training.  Holly just ran over 5 miles for the first time.  I can’t wait to see you guys again!  Jen Brooks is running in my neighborhood rubbing it in my face that she beat me at our last 1/2 marathon.

Brent and Samantha Crane are running all over Jacksonville.   I know that Jon VanDeusen played golf last week, that doesn’t count as exercise!  I have not spoken to my friend Dewayne in a few weeks, but i know that he will be ready!   Why is it that Brian Handly is going to France in August and the other three have decided to run a Marathon?  I am proud of my Brother -in-Law Kevin Voss that he is going to run with us.  Please share you stories of training, or if you would just like to make a sarcastic comment, please do!

If you need any information about the hotel or events surrounding the Marathon, please let me know (919)795-3971.

This is Memorial Day weekend.  It will have a new meaning to me.   One that hits close to my heart.  Take a moment and run or think about Capt Phil this Monday.

I think of him every day.  As members of Team Dykeman i want you to be proud of what we are doing.  On June 7, 2009 we are awarding the First Scholarship in his name.  It is going to a Graduating Senior Soccer player from his High School.   I couldn’t be prouder of all of you.  Thank you.
