CAPTAIN PHILIP DYKEMAN
Captain Dykeman was born on 5 March 1970 in Syracuse, New York. After graduating from high school and community college, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in June 1991 as a 0311 Rifleman. Upon completion of Marine Combat Training, Infantry Training Battalion and Marine Corps Security Force School in January 1992, he was assigned as a Security Guard at Marine Corps Security Force Company, Rota Spain.
After Security Forces, from August 1993 to February 1997, Captain Dykeman served as a fire team leader and squad leader with 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marines, where he attained the rank of Corporal and Sergeant.
From March 1997 to July 1997 he was assigned to Infantry Training Battalion, SOI (East) as an instructor and also first met his beautiful wife. During this assignment, he was selected for Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program (MECEP) and was transferred to NROTC at the University of Rochester.
After 2 years, Captain Dykeman received a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, NY in May 1999, and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant. He attended The Basic School and Infantry Officer Course, completing the courses in 2000.
After the Infantry Officer Course, Captain Dykeman was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 6th Marines, and served as a Rifle and Weapons Platoon Commander from July 2000 to March 2001.
Captain Dykeman was then transferred to Headquarters Battalion, 2nd Marine Division where he served as the Headquarters and Service Company Training Officer until December 2001.
In January 2002, Captain Dykeman was transferred to 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marines, and served as a Weapons Platoon Commander until July 2003.
Following his tour at 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marines, he reported to the Infantry Training Battalion where he was assigned as the Officer in Charge of the Weapons Instructor Group from August 2003 to April 2004.
In May 2004, Captain Dykeman took command of Bravo Company, Infantry Training Battalion, SOI (East). In August 2005, he was assigned as the executive officer of Advanced Infantry Training Company, SOI (East) after which he received orders to Expeditionary Warfare School, class of 2007.
Captain Dykeman is currently the commanding officer of Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines, in Hawaii, assuming this command in August 2007.
Captain Dykeman’s deployments include: 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit in 2004; Operation Restore Hope, Cuba in 1995; Unit Deployment Program to Okinawa in 2006, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit in 2002/3; Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2008. Through the Marine Corps, he has ate dirt and/or drank beer in: Spain, England, France, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Israel, Kenya, Morocco, Tunisia, Cuba, Okinawa, South Korea, Seychelles, Macedonia, Kosovo, Djibouti, Bahrain, and of course Iraq.
His military education includes Recruit Training at the real Boot Camp, Parris Island, Security Forces School, Corporals Course, Sergeants Course, Infantry Squad Leaders Course, Assault Climbers Course, Officer Candidate School, The Basic School, Infantry Officer Course, Quantico, and Expeditionary Warfare School.
Captain Dykeman’s personal awards include the Purple Heart, two Marine Corps Good Conduct Medals, a Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal and two Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medals.
He is lucky to be married to the former Virginia Moore. They have a son, Austin, and twin daughters, Emilee and Ashlee.
