We have a Happy Hour scheduled for 3-7pm on Friday, November 5th at the offices of Archer Investments at 4900 Falls of Neuse Road, Suite 105, Raleigh NC 27609. This is our kick off to the City of Oaks Marathon November 7th. We have around 10 running. That is awesome. Added to our Team is Adam Martin, Caroline and Lauren. On Sunday Andrew participated in the first of two marathons he has scheduled. Yesterday he ran the Century Marathon in Fulton, NY. Twenty-seven days from today he will lace up his running shoes for the City of Oaks Marathon in his home town of Raleigh, NC. Sunday, Andrew turned in his personal best time of 4 hrs and 41 minutes. Outstanding! Andrew was joined by his brother Stephen who ran the Half Marathon.
On August 21st, Patrick Bateman (Phil’s cousin Peter’s son) completed his first Triathlon representing Team Dykeman.
Patrick along with 125 other kids swam, biked and ran in an event meant to engage kids in outdoor activities. Patrick participated in the 9-11 yr old category where they had to swim 2 laps of the pool, tranistion to their bikes for a 3.5 mile ride and then run .75 miles.
Throughout the event Patrick wore his Team Dykeman shirt and proudly wore his finishing metal the rest of the weekend. Everyone at Team Dykeman is very proud of Patrick’s accomplishment. Patrick’s Dad sponsored Patrick and will be donating $100 to Team Dykeman!
Please come out and stand along the travel route to show your support for a convoy of Military Personell returning home to Central New York from Afghanistan!
We will be meeting at the Northbound Welcome Center on Rt 81 at 3 pm.
Fly your flags, wield posters, wave your hands, and salute the troops as they pass.

As I wrote the headline, I paused for a moment on the word serve. Should it be serve or should it be served? I quickly decided that serve was the right, as service to our country never ends. To all those who have died, to all those who have retired, to all those currently in the armed forces — all continue to serve! We at Team Dykeman thank you for your service and all the freedoms your service provides us.

As many of you know, my friend and cousin, Captain Philip J Dykeman, USMC, was killed in action on June 26, 2008, while serving our country in Iraq. Phil died at the young age of 38 leaving behind his wife of 10 years, 3 children – Austin, 10; Emilee, 8; Ashley, 8 – and an extended family stretching across the country that miss him dearly with every passing day. On June 26, 2008, the life of Phil Dykeman came to a sudden end. A father, a Marine, a cousin, a friend. There are many around the world today who will pause to remember. Phil touched the hearts and minds of everyone he met. Phil was my cousin. I believe there is about 11 years separating us so we weren’t really close growing up. CAPTAIN PHILIP J DYKEMAN
Team Dykeman is a family sponsored award that supports graduating students from the Central Square School District.
This scholarship is named after Captain Philip Dykeman USMC, a 1988 graduate of P.V. Moore High School, who was killed in Iraq on 26 June 2008.
This scholarship is to honor Captain Dykeman and all of those that have served and sacrificed for this country by focusing on giving back to the community.
